To make Separate Folders in Netscape Messenger: (NOTE: I am using version 4.7 here. Later versions may vary slightly). First...Print this out. It will be easier to follow than trying to do it on the computer since you will have a number of screens coming up. 1. At the top Click on File, then go down and click on New Folders. A rectangle screen comes up called New Folder. 2. In the Name put Narimasu-hs 3. In the next block, Leave it as Local Mail. 4. Click OK Repeat 1 thru 4 except for the name put NHS-Chat If you click on the arrow next to INBOX at the top you'll see a menu open and under Local Mail are two sub folders (among some others), the two we just made. Now to get the messages to go in them and not into your Inbox. 1. Click on Edit, scroll down and click on Message Filters. 2. A screen opens called Message Filters. 3. To your right click on NEW and a screen comes up called Filter Rules. 4. In Filter Name put Narimasu-hs 5. The next blocks should read "The subject of the message contains 6. The next line Then move to the Folder, Click on the Arrow and select the Narimasu-hs Folder. 7. Click OK. You are now back to the Message Filters Screen. 8. Repeat items 3 thru 7 except - In item 4 above put NHS-Chat Then in Item 6 select the NHS-Chat Folder. 9. Click ok Now when your messages come in, those that have [narimasu-hs] in the Subject block will go into the Narimasu-hs Folder. Those with [nhs-chat] in the Subject it will go in the NHS-Chat folder. You can make other folders (or even sub folders under a main folder heading) for work items, newsletter subscriptions etc. The only difference will be what you name the Folder. The Trick here then is to pick a consistent Keyword from the Subject that would be in every message you get. If the Subject always changes on incoming messages, then you might use a name in the FROM block instead of the Subject block. Fortunately our Server names are listed first so is easy to use those as the Keyword. If you have any problems, let me know and I'll try to help. Walt Young '53 wyoung@narimasu.net
